The sultry sounds of a tropical paradise come to mind when one hears the pulsing rhythms and sweet melodies of Havana Son.
Created by Cuban native Rene Herrera, not only known for being an award winning composer and arranger but also a former Mercury Records recording artist. This world-renowned bandleader brings the music to life through his use of piano, vocals, guitar and TRES (Traditional Cuban Stringed Instrument). Rene created the true Latin sound and willingly shares it with his audience.
His wife Llilian Herrera is of Cuban heritage and adds her unique vocal style to create and intoxicating cocktail of Latin and American sounds. She graduated with a degree in music from the Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. She also studied Opera at Boston University under the training of Carlo Bergonzi, one of the top vocal coaches in the world. She has sung professionally in the classical music world as well as with many Latin bands. (Tropicoso, Latin X-Posure, Bioritmo, Puerto Rican Ensemble, etc.)
Havana Son plays authentic Latin rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue, Son, Cha Cha, boleros, bachata, vallenato, cumbia and more...
Any Fiesta or event will be completely transformed by the pulsing Latin rhythms and full sound of Havana Son Duo or Trio.
Having been in Atlanta for the last 5 years, Havana Son has been playing wedding receptions, corporate events, private parties and festivals all over the metro Atlanta area and beyond... some of our presentations have been at the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, Riverbend Music festival in Chattanooga, Centennial Olympic Park Music at Noon and much more...
Rene and Llilian are also proud members of Young Audiences Woodruff Arts Center! They go to schools and do In-School programs where they share Latin music with children of all ages.
The program is called "A Musical Tour Through Latin America". Children learn about rhythms and styles of music from different Spanish speaking countries. Packed with facts about countries, their capitols and populations the program makes learning FUN!!!! Children participate by singing, clapping, dancing and playing percussion instruments.
